"Hiya" means "Shame in Filipino. The Walis Tambo (Grass Broom) is commonly used in Filipino households. Memories of this broom are both visual and sonic. The juxtaposition of the word "hiya" on a broom represents a different way of living by a new generation of the culture in the diaspora.

No shame will be “swept under the rug”. It will be witnessed by Kapwa (community) and be healed.
